I live in Brussels, Belgium and have fooling around with hifi since 25 years; I started with Dayton Wright preamp, Phase linear 700 amp and BW DM6 speakers.

Then I did a trip to New York and met Mike Kay of Lyric Hifi retail shop. I went into Mark Levinson gear for 10 years ending to buy  a complete HQD system from ML.

I then switched to the IRS V speakers from Infinity and Carver Silver Seven Tube mono amplifiers together with a Convergent Audio Technology preamp. I had a Goldmund Reference Turntable at that time. I kept that system until 2 years ago and bought the Genesis 201 speakers. I also replaced my turntable with a Forsell Air Reference.

Last year I changed the electronics and went into digital.

My music room is 8 meter X 4. 8 m X 2.8 m and there is also a BOSENDORFER  2.25 m. piano in it.

I listen to 40 % classical , and 40 % jazz and 20% popular music.

I try to listen to live classical music once a month by attending concerts specially piano and orchestra.

I have 10.000 LP  and 600 CD  and 500 master copy tapes.

Stany's comments about his System:

AA: "Stany, how would you describe your system's sound?"

SB: "My system is transparent , very detailed , open , dynamic , sweet, smooth and deep."

AA: "Do you think there is room for improvement?"

SB: "I can improve by tweaking with speakers position and regulation of tweeters , midrange and woofers. I also would like to have a bigger room."

AA: "Have you got plans for upgrading?"

SB: "Yes, change my digital cables."

the heavy platforms

"Re-Visit" Notes (19 April 2002)

I sold my Studer analogue record player together with the copies of the master tapes.

My digital and phono cables were replaced by XLO Limited Edition cables. I also removed the Genesis Digital Lens.

The result was more space , articulation, and the instruments images are much more precisely focused, and have more body. You hear very well the difference between a Steinway or a Bosendorfer piano. On complex orchestral music you hear every low level detail and everything is more realistically sized and in more natural perspective, more open, separated, defined and there is more extension down and up , it is also fast. You have more depth and layers and width in the soundstage .The deep bass is also more extended .

I also changed my platforms upon which rest the electronics to have a stable and heavy rigid structure.

My favourite vinyl LP's are :

  • Reiner Chicago symphony Orchestra- Rimsky Khorsakof - Scheherazade RCA Classic RecordsReiner
  • Prokofiev - Lt Kije RCA Classic Records
Miles Davis -Kind of Blue Columbia Classic Records
  • Keith Jarrett - Standard in Norway ECM CD
  • Rachmaninof - Symphonic Dances - Dallas Symphony orchestra &endash; Johanos- Vox Turnabout reedited by Athena record
  • Patricia Barber - Blue Café Premonition Records Vinyl
