B & W 801 Nautilus

Eight years ago Funda And was unconsciously whistling a melody. A friend of his prompted him and asked if he knew what he was whistling. Funda And said no and asked him to tell. It was the theme of Beethoven's 5th Piano Concerto "The Emperor". Following this event he started to listen to classical music and developed an important CD collection. "Classical music requires a good system to be fully appreciated" says Mr. And to explain his involvement with Hi-Fi.

Funda And has a private and a very comfortable listening room (9 x 7 m) in the basement. His system, that he bought only five months ago (his previous speakers were Ohm XO4), is ideally located away from back and side walls. Although the private listening room renders the system WAF free, the middle-of-the-room positioning of the speakers still bothers his wife.

Funda And is not a member of Istanbul Hi-Fi Club but he promises to join very soon. He listens to classical (90%) and soft music (10%).

The CD's he uses for equipment evaluation purposes are the followings:

  • Patricia Barber / Cafe Blue / Prem-737-2
  • Dione Warwick / Greatest Hits 1979-90 / 259 279
  • Mussorgsky / Pictures at an Exhibition / Eiji Oue, Minnesota Orchestra / RR-79 CD

Funda And's comments about his System:

AA: "Mr. And, how would you describe your system's sound?"
FA: "Sweet, well defined, open sounding and with good bass extension."
AA: "Do you think there is room for improvement?"
FA: "Yes, I would like to increase the clarity and detail of the high frequencies."
AA: "Have you got plans for upgrading?"
FA: "None at the moment, I may still try different interconnects in order to achieve the required clarity in trebles."
