My life and the
Audio
My father was a great music lover, he
always was listening to the radio or to a Telefunken
"console", I must say that in Mexico, from 1940 to 1976 it
was very difficult to import audio gear as it was very
expensive or you should buy in the informal market. Then I
was very lucky to have in house a Telefunken tube amplifier
with a Garrard turntable and a short wave radio also
included, the sound still is beautiful and I keep this
Telefunken "Palmira" console.
Music we listened then was London's
Phase IV, Mercury's Living Presence, RCA Red Seal, etc. To
wake me up my father, before going to work, stacked 2 or 3
LP´s in the automatic Garrard turntable and I still
remember the sound of that music. It was a joy to wake up
that way.
With that kind of memories I studied
Civil Engineering in Guadalajara, the state capital, and
after that I went to Paris to make a Master degree in Urban
Planning.
In Paris I was so fortunate, thanks to
my parents, to meet with the people from the
L´Audiophile, and I started to make my first high
performance system. It was a 3 way Onken (Altec 416 8C,
Audax HD17HR37 and Fostex T925) with a passive crossover,
amplifier was the famous "Le Classe A", 20 Watts, for
Preamplifier I had the SRPP Anzai, that was a very good
sound.
After that I tried planar speakers
like the Acoustat, Magnepan, Martin Logan, Sound Lab but
wasn't impressed with them, then I thought I should go back
to Onken design's and I have choosen the Onken "W" 4 way
with a subwoofer Hartley 24" this makes a 5 way
multiamplified system.
Arriving to this goal wasn't easy: it
took more than 10 years; this is because you don't get the
elements so easy and you must try and try till you find the
correct component.
By now I can say the sound is
impressive, the speakers disappear and leave the place to
the music. That is the objective of a good system you must
not to be able to listen the sounds in the speakers but
outside of them and you must be able to locate the
instruments, voices and sounds in different spaces and
locations.
When I turn back and remember all the
things I should do and live to arrive here is incredible but
the joy and pleasure it produces is rewarding. There is
still a lot more to do and improve.

Amplifiers:
Placed on top of a
Brazilian Granite "Uba Tuba" platform which is in turn
supported by two steel I-Beams 5" (each). On the rear
I-Beam, within its back face, the electrical installation
is properly placed. Each amplifier in turn is 50 cms away
from the receptacles
Electronics:
DIY steel rack, rack
for Tape recorders, and two Target wall supports for the
turntables all on the right side of the hi-fi
room.
Speakers:
Subwoofers and Woofers
have supports made out of wood. Medium Bass section is
hanged of the front I-Beam that support the amplifiers
which has the capability to adjust angle and direction.
The Medium high is also hanged from the steel structure,
achieving a decoupling from the woofer and making the
sound clearer and cleanest.
Electrical
installation:
A dedicated electrical
input with two Voltage Regulators, 10 and 2 KVA
respectively, which are in turn operated by 2 remote
electromagnetic switch. The complete electrical system is
grounded through 2 efficient ground systems. The wall
receptacles are 20 amp hospital grade.
Regarding the Voltage
Regulators, 10 and 2 KVA, each handles the amplifiers and
the preamplification section respectively
(separately).
Power
cables:
The power cables used
are Tiffany's.

Francisco's
comments about his system:
AA: "Francisco,
how would you describe your system's sound?"
FJ:
"The easy flowing of the music
effortless and very fast. There is not a focal point,
there are many places where the music comes from. There
is not a difficult passage to reproduce. You are never
worried for damaging the speakers or drivers. All of them
are working very free."
AA: "Do you think
there is room for improvement?"
FJ:
"I use to have a friend,
Albeto Laveaga, he always was open to any improvement or
new tweek. So by this I think you will never end the
improving of the system. There is a continum in the
developement of new views and analyse."
AA: "Have you got
plans for upgrading?"
FJ:
"I believe I will be walking
towards a Goto system with BP Satri electronics. We are
working in a turntable. But most important will be a
bigger studio with the horns for the woofer section."
