Cemal has always been a music lover and used to own a fairly decent Hi-Fi system which included Infinity Reference speakers and Harman Kardon amplification. He is so much into music that he himself plays percussion instruments like conga, tumba, bongo, drums and also guitar. His penthouse is full of these instruments where he regularly practices (see the bottom picture). He also used to have a program on Acik Radyo which was called "Satmayan Plaklar" (or in English "The Records that don't Sell"). In fact it means the opposite of "best selling". The same program is now carried out under the same name by Cemil Gandur (another audiophile friend of ours).

But Cemal had resisted Hi-End audio until very recently. I really don't know what made him change his mind but he called me and we went to visit dealers to listen to different systems. He finally decided to buy the Martin Logan Prodigy speakers with Bryston amps. Soon after this purchase I visited him.

His new system sits very confortably in his main living room (10 x 6m.). Cemal told me that his wife Sara loves them. Apparently she even stated that the bigger speakers sounded better and she had a clear preference for them!!! Should we forget about WAF and find something else? I don't think so, I think Sara is an exception and Cemal is enjoying his new system without a trace of guilt.

Cemal is a member of Istanbul Hi-Fi Club. He listens to jazz (70%), classical (20%) and rock (10%). He also happens to be a Frank Zappa fan.

Cemal's comments about his System:

AA: "Cemal, how would you describe your system's sound?"

CM: "It's transparent, natural and has a deep, wide soundstage.

AA: "Do you think there is room for improvement?"

CM: "Of course. But today I'm very happy as it was a big improvement over my previous system, so I can't think of any further improvement right now.

AA: "Have you got plans for upgrading?"

CM: "Yes, maybe the amplifiers and the speaker cables can be upgraded, but not in the near future.
